How Do You Choose Headphones?
Before buying any headphones there are some things you definitely should take into account. They can enhance the user experience a lot if you focus on some basic things before buying. They are,
- Fit and Comfort
- Portability
- Durability
- Decide what audio sounds you'd like to have enhanced
- Headphones with minimal sound leakage
- Cables
- Decide what you would like to hear
Now, I'm not going into details here but if you want to know more, you can comment below and maybe I will write a full article about this in the future. Anyway considering all these factors, I will be comparing the Sony WH-1000XM4 and Bose 700 to see which headphone comes at the top.
The Sony WH-1000XM4 has a similar classic look to the Sony WH-1000XM3 and established itself as an industry-leading noise canceling with Dual Noise Sensor Technology headphones. It delivers next-level music with Edge-AI, co-developed by Sony Music Studios, Tokyo. The Sony WH-1000XM4 is equipped with touch sensor controls to pause, play, skip tracks, control volume, activate your voice assistant, and answer phone calls. It has up to 30 hours of battery backup with a quick charging facility. You can get up to 5 hours of playback time with only 10 minutes of charging.
The
Sony WH-1000XM4 has speak-to-chat technology which automatically reduces volume during conversations but in
Sony WH-1000XM3 you had to cover your ear-cup to cancel the noise-canceling feature. The speak-to-chat feature can be toggled on the fly by holding two fingers on the touchpad. The call quality is very good with precise voice pickup but sometimes can be challenging in bad windy weather. It has wearing detection which detects the presence of your ear within the ear-cup and sending a play pause command via Bluetooth to the source device. In the Sony app,
Sony WH-1000XM4 has adaptive sound control providing a personalized listening experience and you can also enable the speak-to-chat feature.

From the comparison, you can see how neck and neck they are. So how will you choose which one is more suitable for you? Well if you are business personnel who is more likely to make more phone calls, attend meetings on zoom and such, or someone who travels a lot or lives in a windy area, then the Bose 700 is perfect for you, without any doubt. As I have said, its call quality has no competition. But If you are more of a normal user who just wants to enjoy some good music with decent noise-canceling, has good battery life and fast charging then you should definitely go for the Sony WH-1000XM4.
